And even though it would be nice for the people around us to sing our praises, nothing will compare to the praises the Lord will sing to us quietly, alone, in worship with him.
If only MY coach had time for me like hers does. If only OUR team had that kind of fan base/support. If OUR team didn’t have the drama. If MY relationship looked like that. If MY house was designed by Joanna Gaines, THEN, then I’d have it all.
I’m not minimizing the stressors of the coaching life. They are real and they can be unique and overwhelming. What I am saying is that pointing at coaching as the blanket scapegoat for everything challenging that happens during the season can put our hearts in a dangerous spot.
But what I am not going to do is shut down my life and let the ride of coaching dictate my emotional state completely. Because that is not good for anyone. It’s not good for me. It’s not good for my kids. And believe it or not, it’s not good for coach.

If your time is better spent sending resumes, packing boxes, or cheering on your team at another tournament, that makes sense!
On the other hand, if you find that Christmas decorations bring you joy then do it! Do it all. Do the baking and the cards and all the holiday things that make the holidays joyful for you and your household.

Wherever you are, don’t forget the bigger picture. Don’t forget the beautiful things amid the ups and downs. Don’t forget the look on your son’s face when he gets to run on the field after the game, or the look on your husband’s face after the biggest win of his career. Don’t forget why we do this.
I kept trying to find the right combination of circumstances to make life feel and look as adventurous as those around me, but I didn’t have the same ingredients.
