I’ve been married to my head football coach husband, Warren, for 11 years. We are at our 2nd school, Kansas, OK, which is his hometown. He has coached nearly every sport in our time together. I also grew up as a coach’s daughter and sister. I am a family medicine physician for Cherokee Nation in nearby Jay, OK.
What is your favorite part of this lifestyle?-
I love the relationships with other coaches’ families and the kids. We have a huge built-in community for our own kids to be supported and loved as they grow up. Seeing my husband’s students treat them like little brothers makes all the time worth it.
What is your LEAST favorite part of this lifestyle?
- Having to plan trips and activities around the schedule, especially in the summer. Coaches work longer hours in the summer than any other time!
What is one item you can't live without that makes this life easier?
- Our parents! They help with the kids and are always there to support our crazy lives.
What is your go to concession stand order or must have snack?
- My kids always have to have a gatorade and fried oreos. I bring a celsius and kettle corn for myself!
What is the craziest thing you have survived due to this lifestyle?
- His first year as head football coach, he also volunteered to assist girls basketball, while I was doing my medical residency 1.5 hr drive from home with a toddler. What a crazy year!
What is one thing you would go back and tell your younger self?
-
It’s ok to end up with a man just like your dad. I couldn’t imagine sports not being a priority in our lives. We’d be so bored!
