Be STRONG

Be STRONG

One of my favorite memories of my husband is watching him play baseball and football in high school. We were just friends back then, but fast forward 23 years, and we are happily married and have one son.

My husband coached baseball for 16 years and has now been coaching football for 11 years. The Las Cruces High School is one of the original high schools in our town. Growing up, you were either a Bulldawg or Trojan, no in-between!! The rivalry between these two schools has been one of the biggest high school rivalries in the nation.

When we decided to get married, he was coaching both football and baseball at the time, so we waited for baseball to end and the football schedule to come out, and we picked a date just three short months away. We have been married for 9 years now.

Being a coach’s wife is not easy by any means! During football season, my husband leaves before we wake up and sometimes doesn’t come home until after our son is asleep. He is gone 7 days a week and way over 40 hours a week.

Being part of the Bulldawg family makes it all worth it. Our kids call each other cousins, the wives are lifelong friends, and we have all been in or at each other’s weddings. I can’t express how being a football wife is a way of life.

Three years ago, my husband and I got pregnant with our second child. We were over the moon excited to bring another baby into the world and raise him/her as a Bulldawg.

God had other plans, and we miscarried right in the middle of the season. The football family didn’t skip a beat and was there for us with dinner, calls, and, of course, prayers.

Having a miscarriage is extremely hard, but having the support of our football family made it a bit easier. There is a saying the boys have, and it’s “Be STRONG”! Be STRONG is something that really helped my family get through our difficult situation, and we all continue to use it to this day!

I could go on and on with all the amazing things our program does to help the players, their families, and our community, but I think I will end here with the meaning of Be STRONG!
