Great is thy faithfulness
Over and over I sang that chorus by Thomas Chisholm throughout my day. It was officially stuck in my head. I wasn’t even particularly in a season of anxiety or uncertainty, but it was stuck nonetheless. Then my wandering mind the Holy Spirit added some personal insight and lyrics if you will.Great is thy faithfulness...even when clouds of despair take over.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when you’re planning a funeral.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when we move--again.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when I feel alone and unknown.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when the unwanted diagnosis appears.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when Coach’s contract is not renewed.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when there is no heartbeat.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when your closest friend is unfaithful.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when they curse your name from the sidelines.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when we have buried ourselves in debt.
Great is thy faithfulness...even when you’re celebrating seasons of gladness and joy.
Morning by morning, new mercies I see
Even in good times and bad, His mercies are new every morning. After much “lamenting,” Lamentations 3:21-23 says, “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”The author of Lamentations does not proclaim this hope lightly. Take a look at chapter three and you will see that his sorrow and grief are deep. (I mean, anything with wormwood and gall can’t be good right? Seriously.)
So whether you are in a season of calm or a season of deep grief, His mercies are new every morning. You can see it when you look. The sunrise in the distance. The laugh of a child. The curing of cancer. The soul won to Christ.
Sometimes in dark seasons, you have to look even harder. The first sip of coffee in a quiet house. The smile your spouse throws your way before the game begins. The hot bath at the end of the long day.
Maybe it’s the calm before the storm. But He is there with new mercies and new beginnings and will give you everything you need.

Philippians 4:19 tells us, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”Be careful now—he says every need—not want.
In a world where every want is accessible within minutes, the line between want and need are often blurred by our own selfish desires. But God promises to give us every need we have. I dare you to look back and see how God has provided in your life.
Maybe it was the anonymous check in the mail for the exact amount you needed to pay rent or that hospital bill even when you weren’t sure how it would happen.
Maybe it was the stretching of the dollar with no explanation when the numbers weren’t adding up.
Maybe it was not financial at all--maybe it was the new friend in the new town that you so desperately needed when loneliness was taking over.
Maybe God brought peace about a loved one’s salvation. Or brought you a mate to point you back towards Christ.
Maybe it was the church family covering you in prayer when the despair of a loss was so great that you didn’t even know what to pray or what you needed. God does--and He provides.
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me
One verse of the hymn goes on to say that in every season, even nature witnesses God’s great faithfulness.Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love
If anyone understands seasons of life, it’s the coach’s wife. And there is no offseason in life. (Is there even really an offseason in coaching?) There are no seasons (in sports or in life) that God’s faithfulness is not seen. His mercies are new every morning, and His love is abundant.
Are we looking for them even when hardships are present?
Are you looking for them in the stress of the unknown?
Can you see them whether big or small?
