What to Expect When You Didn’t Expect to Get Fired: A Guide

What to Expect When You Didn’t Expect to Get Fired: A Guide

Football families know that it’s always a possibility, but you can’t prepare yourself for the sting of a firing. While you may not have seen it coming, God was not caught off guard!

So while you’re watching expectedly for his hand at work, keep these nuggets in mind and your mouth shut:

1. You’ll need to protect your peace; don’t discuss it with people who will not help keep you in your peace.
2. Talk it out, but don’t hash it out. Replaying it doesn’t help.
3. Stay quiet. Keep your mouth shut while you’re still angry. Folks are watching.
4. Tell God everything. Listen to his response. He knows. He gets it. He’s been there. He had a Judas, too.
5. It’s a game of persistent endurance. Rarely is there a quick fix.
6. It’s humbling. You gotta sit in that.
7. No one’s opinion matters. You can’t stop the speculation or chatter. Folks don’t know the details, and it’s not your job to tell them.
8. People only care how it will affect them.
9. “It happened to me” falls short unless their firing was reported in the newspaper or shared on Twitter, too.
10. You’ll find you can grow weary, grow jaded, or grow in your faith. It’s a choice.
11. It’s not fair.
12. You’ll find out where your identity lies.
13. You’ll clearly see others’ character, or lack thereof.
14. Others will see clearly your character, or lack of it.

Let me whisper this last one into your heart… God saw it all. He knows every detail, and he works all things for your good and His glory. You get a first-row seat to see his hand at work.

Stay real close to him and lean into all the truth that you’ve claimed. Those prayers that you’ve prayed over your husband ARE being answered. He IS being set up for success. SOMEWHERE ELSE
