Behind Every Coach is a Wife in the Bleachers (With Goldfish in Her Purse)

There’s nothing quite like football season, is there? The Friday night lights, the smell of popcorn in the stands, the sound of whistles blowing, and me, juggling a toddler who wants nachos while my husband is pacing the sidelines with the focus of someone who was made for this moment!

Welcome to the glamorous life of a coach’s wife.

Our men live and breathe this game. 80-hour work weeks, film sessions that last longer than most weddings, and a passion so strong it sometimes feels like football is the third member of our marriage. But here’s the thing: as much as we roll our eyes when he says he’ll be home by 8 and makes it in at 11, we know this is his calling.

And because we love him, we lace up our mom sneakers, pack the diaper bag, and drag our babies (and our exhausted selves) to yet another Friday night game. Dressed in our Game Day fashion!

It’s not easy. Bedtimes get wrecked, dinners get cold, and there are weeks when the laundry pile rivals Mount Everest. There are losses that feel heavier than they should and wins that make every sacrifice worth it. And through it all, he leans on us.

Because behind every strong coach is a strong wife, the backbone, the support system, the one who cheers just as hard for him as the crowd cheers for his team. He can’t do what he does without us holding down the fort, without us reminding him after a tough loss that the sun will rise tomorrow (and that his kids still think he’s the greatest man alive).

The truth is, his biggest flex isn’t his winning record, it’s his wife!

We are the unsung heroes of football season. The baby wranglers. The sideline snack packers. The late-night pep talk givers. The ones who remind him that whether he’s on a winning streak or stuck in a losing skid, he is loved, valued, and supported.

So to my fellow coaches’ wives: you are seen. You are tough. You are the heartbeat of your family. Yes, it’s exhausting. Yes, it’s thankless sometimes. But our men wouldn’t be able to chase their passion without us chasing right alongside them.

And while it’s true that being a coach’s wife is a tough job, it’s also one of the greatest privileges! Because at the end of the day, we don’t just love the game. We love our men. And we wouldn’t trade this wild, chaotic, Goldfish-crumb-filled life for anything.
